Historical background
Vanity (Denise Matthews) rose to fame as a singer and actress in the early 1980s. She gained international recognition through Prince , who groomed her as the frontwoman of the band Vanity 6. After leaving the band, she signed with Motown Records and launched her solo career. "Mechanical Emotion ," recorded with Morris Day (frontman of The Time and a close Prince confidant), is considered one of her best-known singles and represents the Motown sound of the 1980s in its purest form.
