Historical background
The Housemartins were formed in Hull, UK, in 1983 and included Paul Heaton (later of The Beautiful South) and Norman Cook, who later achieved international fame as Fatboy Slim. The band combined catchy guitar pop with socially conscious lyrics and humor. Although the Housemartins were only active for a few years (1983–1988), they left a lasting impression on the British music scene. The compilation album * Now That's What I Call Quite Good* , released after their breakup, is considered an important collector's item that summarizes the band's short but influential career.
