Historical background

Percy Sledge was born in Alabama in 1941 and is one of the most influential voices in soul music. His worldwide hit "When a Man Loves a Woman" (1966) made him internationally famous and is still considered one of the greatest soul classics of all time.
The Star Collection edition included here was released on the German label MIDI (distributed by Ariola) and brings together some of his most important recordings – a typical example of the 1970s collector series that made legendary artists accessible to a wide audience.
