Historical background

Mike + The Mechanics was founded in 1985 by Mike Rutherford, known as the bassist and guitarist of Genesis. Together with singers Paul Carrack and Paul Young (not to be confused with the pop singer of the same name), Rutherford developed a project that quickly evolved from a side project into a successful solo act. Their self-titled debut album, Mike + The Mechanics, became an international hit and launched the band's career, which continued to gain popularity in the following years with further hits and albums.
