With "Über sieben Brücken" (Over Seven Bridges), Karat released one of the most important albums in East German rock history in 1979. The title track became an anthem for an entire generation – poetic, melancholic, and universal at the same time. The album combines emotional lyrics with an elegant art-rock sound and showcases the band at their artistic peak.
Historical background:
The Berlin band Karat , founded in 1975, left a lasting mark on the East German music scene with their blend of progressive rock and lyrical lyrics. "Über sieben Brücken" (Over Seven Bridges) is considered a milestone of German-language rock – not least because the song later gained widespread popularity in the West (partly through Peter Maffay). The album represents sophisticated music bridging East and West, art and pop, longing and reality.
