Karat – Karat Vintage LP (AMIGA, 1978)

With their self-titled debut album, Karat, the East Berlin band of the same name laid the foundation for their later success in 1978. Even then, the distinctive characteristics of their style were evident – ​​sophisticated lyrics, catchy melodies, and a clear, emotional signature. Songs like König der Welt (King of the World ) and Mir träumte (I Dreamed ) combine poetic depth with the progressive sound of the late 1970s in East Germany.

Karat , founded in 1975, quickly became one of the leading representatives of East German art rock. The band, centered around Claudius Dreilich and Ed Swillms, combined influences of Western rock music with lyrical language, shaping the so-called "intellectual East German rock" genre. Their debut album, Karat, quickly became a popular success and paved the way for later classics such as Über sieben Brücken (Over Seven Bridges) and Der blaue Planet (The Blue Planet) .
