This retro LP by the East German rock band Karat is a piece of GDR music history and considered one of the band's most important albums. With a blend of rock, poetic lyrics, and a melodic sound, Karat managed to make a name for themselves both in the East and later in the West. The album contains hits like "Das Monster," "Die Burg," and "König der Welt" and impressively showcases the musical style of Ed Swillms and Herbert Dreilich. An authentic historical document for collectors and enthusiasts of GDR rock music.
Historical background
Founded in 1975 in East Berlin, Karat quickly became one of the GDR's most famous rock bands. With poetic lyrics and a stylistic affinity to art and progressive rock, the band achieved cult status. In the 1980s, Karat achieved their breakthrough in West Germany with "Über sieben Brücken musst du geh'n" (You Have to Cross Seven Bridges). This LP marks an early phase of their career and documents the cultural significance of rock music in the GDR.
