Historical background

Karat , founded in East Berlin in 1975, is one of the most successful rock bands of the GDR. With classics like "Über sieben Brücken musst du gehn" (You Have to Cross Seven Bridges) and "Der blaue Planet" (The Blue Planet) , the band achieved cult status far beyond the borders of the GDR. The 1982 song "Der blaue Planet" is considered a milestone in the band's history – a song that addresses environmental and peace issues and thus shaped the spirit of the times.
